Mary-Ellen recently retired as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Southern Brazoria County (HFHSBC) after serving seven years and moved to Georgetown. Prior to that she founded and managed their ReStore which opened in 1994. In another life, she was a nurse-practitioner and retains that license. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical Center and holds a Certificate with Distinction in Non-Profit Leadership from Rice University. HFHSBC currently builds five houses & repairs several roofs annually for a service area of 99,000 people. HFHSBC is an all-volunteer affiliate with five full time staff, none of whom are paid. They rank among the highest producing all-volunteer affiliates in the United States. HFHSBC was recognized by FEMA after Hurricane Ike as the cover story of their national newsletter for expertise in building hurricane-safe houses. They are the sole Energy Star home builder in their service area, which covers seven cities.
